Introduction
In the Early Experiences in Childhood laboratory,
we explore how young children learn about the world in which they live.

At an early age, how do children see themselves and those around them?
How are they influenced by their parents and other adults in their environment?
When seeking information, how do children make judgments about trustworthy friends and teachers?

We have conducted a wide range of projects.
At the moment, we are interested in how social groups, including one’s religious beliefs, can shape children’s thinking.

Project 1: Examining the Impact of Religious Beliefs on the Cognitive Processes in Taiwanese Children
2024-07-01 135727.png
In this project, we are interested in how experiences with different beliefs can impact 4- to 8-year-old children and their families’ thinking.

For example, at a young age, what kinds of beliefs do children learn?
How familiar are they with different kinds of beliefs?
How might these beliefs influence their decisions?

Children will be invited to complete a 15-minute experiment about two child characters from different belief backgrounds.
Parents will also be invited to complete a short questionnaire about their family background.Afterwards, we will provide families with a voucher, a certificate of participation, and small gifts for the child.

Our study is one of the first in Taiwan to look at spiritual beliefs from a developmental perspective, and we invite families from different religious and spiritual backgrounds to participate.

Project 2: Developing Beliefs Taiwan
junior scientist.png

In this longitudinal project, we are interested in how the religious beliefs of a child’s family can impact children’s cognitive and socioemotional development.

We are representing Taiwan in the Developing Beliefs Network,a large-scale collaboration led by researchers at Boston University and the University of California-Riverside.

The first wave(three waves in total) of data collection has been successfully done at 2023, and we're currently conducting wave 2 data collection.

We are no longer recruiting new families to Project 1.
If you are interested in our work, please email nthu.eec@gmail.com –
we are still looking for Project 2 participants!
